Ryan O’Kane

Ryan began his career performing in theatre as a child in his hometown of Dunedin before training at Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School. While still in his second year, he landed his first major screen role as Brad in The Insider’s Guide to Love, winning Best Actor in a Drama Series at the Qantas Television Awards for his performance.

Since then, Ryan has become a familiar face on New Zealand screens whilst also building a successful career across the Tasman. Equally at home in comedy and drama, he has appeared in a number of Australian series including City Homicide, Underbelly: Fat Tony & Co. and Home and Away, alongside key roles in New Zealand productions One Lane Bridge My Life Is Murder and The Brokenwood Mysteries. His feature film work includes Baby Done and The Justice of Bunny King and Australian feature Zombucha! with Ryan in the leading role is due for release in late 2026.

Theatre has remained a significant part of Ryan’s practice, having worked with most of New Zealand’s major theatre companies. Stage credits include Murder on the Orient Express, North by Northwest and A Streetcar Named Desire, part of a body of work that demonstrates his ability to move convincingly between a wide range of characters and genres.

Alongside acting, Ryan creates and produces his own screen work and has several projects in development.
