Chris Hobbs

Chris Hobbs is a veteran New Zealand actor whose career spans more than two decades across Aotearoa, Australia, and the United States. He first came to public attention on Shortland Street as Dr Frank Malone, and has since built a diverse body of work, moving confidently between dramatic roles and character performances.

After Shortland Street, Chris spent time in Australia with appearances on many well knows shows including Home and Away, Water Rats and McLeod’s Daughters. Although he lived in Los Angeles for the best part of the past 25 years, and appeared on iconic soap The Young and the Restless whilst there, he continued to work regularly in the New Zealand screen industry during return trips home, including on Outrageous Fortune, The Brokenwood Mysteries, and Filthy Rich.

Now based back in New Zealand, he recently completed a Master’s in Creative Performance at Toi Whakaari, with research focused on how vulnerability can drive and deepen artistic work.
