Al Brown
Al Brown has been cooking professionally since he was a teenager, working his way from dishwasher to the kitchens of some of New Zealand's most celebrated restaurants. In 1996, he co-founded Logan Brown in Wellington, which quickly became one of the country's most respected fine dining establishments. He later opened Depot Eatery & Oyster Bar and Federal Delicatessen in Auckland, both crowd favourites known for their honest, unfussy food.
Beyond restaurants, Al is a familiar face on New Zealand screens - most notably through Hunger for the Wild, where he combined fishing, hunting, foraging and cooking into something distinctly his own. He's written several bestselling books including Go Fish, Stoked, and his latest, Hooked: Learning to Fish, and was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2012 for his services as a chef.
Al speaks openly about his dyslexia, and credits his resulting hands-on learning style for much of his success. When he’s not in the kitchen, you’ll likely find him out on the water.
